The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) awarded SFE an “A” rating for its dedication to Protein Sustainability, ranking it among the top 5 in the Nation in the “Food Service Industry Protein Sustainability Scorecard”.

Dedicated to Protein Sustainability, the HSUS conducted a Food Service Industry survey focused on three main topics: transparency, goals and a plan of action. This survey was designed to gauge where the nation’s largest food service companies are on this issue, and what resources are needed to support their sustainability objectives.

The HSUS states:

Our food system has major impacts on the environment. Agriculture occupies half of all ice-free land on Earth, and the global food system is responsible for 20% to 37% of all greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). Animal products have a much larger environmental footprint than plant-based foods, using more resources and causing more GHG emissions. For example, it takes many pounds of crops used as feed to produce just one pound of meat; those crops could more efficiently be fed to humans directly.

Food service companies that commit to a tangible increase in plant-based entrée options have positioned themselves to be socially responsible leaders in the industry.

Southwest Foodservice Excellence is proud to be one of the leading companies for plant-based foods in K-12 food service, setting itself apart by making, serving and educating about plant-based meals, and ensuring it is an integral part of its core beliefs and values.

In an effort to increase plant-based menu offerings, SFE has partnered with Humane Society of the United States to promote Plant Based Meals and Education, and pledged to increase its plant-based offerings by 10% by the end of 2024.
